JUXTO - A transformative installation by Matthew Olds that brought the outdoors inside, creating a peaceful, serene, and powerful setting. The installation included an 8′ x 12′ x 2″ painting (see below) based on China Lake Park in Tacoma, WA, which is adjacent to his studio and workshop. He also built a 16′ x 32′ x 5″ reflection pond filled with water and piped in field recordings of bird songs to create a thoughtful and meditative space in a vacant building in the middle of downtown Tacoma. After completion, the artist refers to the piece by its now alternate title - A PAINTER’S ALTER.
