///ROADSIDE ATTRACTION///

An interactive sculpture capturing the desire to connect with someone no matter the time, distance, space, reason, or metaphysical realm featuring an original track by me and translated into five of the most common languages used (this longing is universal) and played through the phone receiver when picked up. With the fourth anniversary of my mother’s passing at 64 approaching, there isn’t much I wouldn’t do to be able to have the chance to pick up the phone and call. Plywood, plexiglass, aluminum, lighting, audio elements, 2019. First shown at my exhibition Roadside Attraction at Gallery One in Ellensburg, WA, documenting the stories, mythos, and relics of the highways and byways of the American West. The complete track along with 12 other original songs making up the album Roadside Attraction will be released on bandcamp in short order paired with a short story of the same name along with a limited run of glass pressed CD’s.

ROADSIDE ATTRACTION is a collection of paintings, sculpture, photography, writing, and music based on the mythos, romance, and relics of the open backroads of the American Mountain West. This work was developed with the help of a Tumbleweed Residency in association with Gallery One Visual Arts Center in Ellensburg, WA, where the work was first exhibited in August 2019.

Each phone is wired up to play the track CALL ME WHEN YOU GET THERE from the artist’s album ROADSIDE ATTRACTION. Each phone plays the song in one of the five most used languages worldwide when you pick up the receiver, reflecting the variances of universal truth. The song and phones represent the longing to connect with someone no matter the time, distance, or space, in this world or the next.

DINER, repurposed and refinished diner booth, custom table with tabletop video screen playing Eggs Over Medium Across America, mixed media, 2019.

For this piece, I ordered and recorded the eating of the same meal across the country. The meal was eggs over medium with bacon, potatoes, toast and coffee, often considered the classic American breakfast. While each meal was similar as each component was included, there were regional variances and subtle differences from place to place. This work delves into the idea of variations of universal truths. The video runs from one meal to the next from an overhead perspective documenting the eating of each meal. This lighthearted take on this idea is similar to the much heavier take found in Call Me When You Get There.
